being able to move/think beyond the cookie cutter patterns and ideas that tradition has implanted into society.
——
It’s a wondrous feeling. The feeling of breaking the barrier. The feeling of transforming into something refreshing and unexplored. When the synapses in the brain connect passing information from one neuron to the next. It’s like icy cold water being poured through your veins knowing that you’ve moved beyond the same, stale traditional patterns of society passed around like the mash potatoes on Thanksgiving Day.
You know that you’ve found a tiny little gold nugget and your first instincts are to:
1) Hide it as a squirrel would do with it’s glorious, unscathed acorn to save and protect, or
2) Display it as soon as you get the chance. As fast as you could boot up your computer, open up Google Chrome, click your favorited tab for Facebook, and update your status to lay out your sparkly treasure.
Either way, the feeling is invigorating because as far as you know, the thought or movement you just connected was unlike any other persons thought or movement to come. You strive to make it your own, but like any other good idea, it gets sifted around. It gets passed on from one person to another. You later come across “your” idea on an acquaintance’s Facebook page and see them claiming it to be their own. A feeling of pride starts to swell in your stomach and a tiny fire builds up. The fire is tiny, but you begin to give it thoughts to feed on. While you begin thinking up just the right words to tell that idea stealing, movement jocking thief, the tiny fire turns into a raging storm of burning emotion and hate. It was YOUR idea. It was YOURS first.
But that’s just the thing… It wasn’t your idea. It wasn’t yours first. It was His idea. It was His first.
Psalm 139:13-16-
“13For you formed my inward parts: You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows very well. 15My frame was not hidden from You. When I was made in secret. And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in your book they all were written. The days fashioned for me, when as as yet there were none of them.”
Next time before you let that sense of pride creep into your heart, remember that the thought or movement you just connected was already known by the One who sits on heavenly throne. He already knew you were going to think that before you even thought to think the thought that you thought you thought. Don’t hold that grudge against the person who “stole” your idea because even those words that you were thinking to say were already known by our Heavenly Father who is all knowing. That’s right, the nasty thoughts you were thinking to say to the guy who stole the thought that you thought was your own thought—
You know what, just surrender it all to Jesus. It’s easier that way.
